"Wildlife of North America A Naturalist's Lifelist" by Whit Bronaugh PLEASE NOTE: In spite of the cover, and the fact that this is my photography web site, my book is not a photography book. But this is a great book for anyone who loves seeing wild animals and would like to keep a "lifelist" of what they’ve seen. It is a wonderful gift for anyone who is interested in nature, and keeping a lifelist is a great way to introduce children to the natural world. Few other gifts will last a lifetime (or longer, as a family heirloom), and fewer still will increase in personal value as the book becomes filled with decades of memories.

"Wildlife
of North America" is the first volume to present a checklist of all
4,000 species of mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, freshwater fish,
butterflies, dragonflies, and damselflies found in the United States and
Canada. Each species listing includes the common and scientific name,
conservation status, a checkbox for sightings, and ample space to record
the place, date, and details of the sighting. The listings are based on
the most-recent scientific findings and include hundreds of changes not
found in current field guides, as well as 150 species recently described
as new or elevated from a subspecies level. A unique feature is the
wealth of information Whit Bronaugh provides on biodiversity,
zoogeography, extinct species, and current taxonomy to broaden the
reader's general knowledge of North American fauna. University Press of Florida, 565 pages |
