Reeds at twilight, Witch Hole Pond, Acadia National Park, Maine

Sometimes you chance upon a photographic situation that is perfect, you shoot it, and you’re done.  This was not one of those times.  While crossing a beaver dam I noticed these reeds in Witch Hole Pond in Acadia National Park, Maine.  Wind on the water obscured the reflections and the light was poor so I made a mental note to return at sunset.  When I came back, it was still too windy.  The next evening was cloudy and the light was flat and pale.  The one after that had nice light but the wind did not die soon enough.  Then another day or two of uninspiring light or wind before it all came together.  Much of the sky was clear but some clouds threatened to block the light.  The sun dipped below the horizon, the wind died, and then some late alpenglow light brushed a cloud with pink and, for a few seconds, I had perfect reflections of the reeds, darkening blue sky, and alpenglow cloud.  Peace, calm, tranquility.  Yes.
